Let's begin with some anatomy: The penis is composed of three cylindrical cavities. The two on top are called the corpus cavernosa, and the one on bottom the corpus spongiosum, which contains the urethra (the tube that urine flows through).

The two top corporal cavities expand to trap and hold the blood that produces an erection in the male. The bottom body, corpus spongiosum, functions mainly for the passage of urine and ejaculation. Each of these corporal bodies is surrounded by a very elastic covering called the tunica albuginea.

On top of the two corporal cavernosa are the superficial nerves and blood vessels of the penis.

When you get aroused, your brain releases a hormone and tells your body to send blood to your penis, filling corpora cavernosa with blood and stimulating pleasure receptors. This is called an erection.   When the corpora cavernosa is filled to the maximum, you have a full erection. Your erection can only get as big as the maximum amount of blood your corpora cavernosa can hold. This determines the size of your current erection. Your corpora cavernosa cells is what limits your erection's length and width.

These cells where the blood "collects" can be expanded. The only way to effectively make these cavities grow is to encourage them to hold more blood by proper regular exercises. When you do this you make the individual cells (corpora cells) grow larger. The penis will be able to hold more blood, have enhanced circulation, and increased strength and sexual ability.

The key of natural penis enlargement is to develop your corpora cavernosa and stretch it. It can be made larger and stronger than it is currently through training and exercise. Results of our very own penis survey! There are a lot of surveys that question guys about the size of their penises - and this one did so as well! - but there aren't many that determine how we guys feel about our tools, and what we do with them. That's where this survey was different. Anyway, guess what? The average length of an erect penis turns out to be 6 inches or less. But unless penises are shrinking, the average is less than we have been led to believe. Happy now? You should be! I haven't included all the raw data but here are the most important pieces of information (on size):
Erect length Erect circumference (thickest part of shaft), Flaccid length Galleries of cocks from small to huge Perhaps the most informative penis site on the web! Find out if you have a small, average or large penis at Images of Size! To get access to Images of Size Age and penis size
For boys who are destined to have a small penis, there must be a moment of discovery or realization at some point in their teenage years that they are simply not going to get any bigger. I suppose this must happen later rather than sooner, since hope springs eternal.....but how do you know, as a teenager, if you are going to be one of the less-well endowed men in the world? Well, you don't really know until as late as 17, which I believe is when the penis has finally finished growing, though I imagine most boys have a sense of how the changes in their bodies compare with the changes in other boys' much earlier than this. So what use is a table of average penis size and age? Well, not much for boys who are worried about how they measure up. But it may reassure some guys who are following a path of development towards the average penis size of six inches or so. The data comes from Jackinworld (link on the masturbation page of this site), where there are pages and pages of information about body and penis development during puberty. You can find it on their "Past surveys" page, which is easily located from their site map. Average erect penis length, by age. Now, what about this! I had come to the conclusion, based on the definitive penis size survey, that there were no differences in penis size between races, And then, I cam across this extract on the Internet: The ethnographic record....[has] numerous anatomical distinctions...These include the placement of female genitals (Orientals front and high; blacks back and low); angle and texture of erection (Orientals parallel to body and stiff, blacks at right angles to body and flexible); ....muscularity (Orientals least, blacks most); and size of genitalia (Orientals smallest, blacks largest). We averaged the ethnographic data on erect penis and found the averages to be approximately: Orientals, 4 to 5.5 inches in length and 1.25 inches in diameter; Caucasians, 5.5 to 6 inches in length and 1.5 inches in diameter; blacks, 6.25 to 8 inches in length and 2 inches in diameter. Women were proportionate to men, with Orientals having smaller vaginas and blacks larger ones, relative to Caucasians. Clitoral size differed in length: in European women, 1.2 inches; in African women, 2 inches. Variations were noted: in French West Indies, the size of the penis and vagina varied with the amount of black admixture [genetic mixing]: Arab men, who were often mixed with black, had larger penises than Europeans. Recent data show similar patterns. Measurements taken from living subjects as well as those at autopsy, show the size of testicles is twofold lower in Asian men than Europeans (9 grams versus 21 grams), a difference too large to be accounted for entirely in terms of body size.... Adapted from "Race differences in sexual behavior: Testing an evolutionary hypothesis." Journal of Research in Personality 21(4): pp. 536-7.
Conclusions Well, you tell me? The Internet has many message boards full of pleas for help and information from men and teenage boys obsessed that they have abnormal penises: too long, too short, the wrong shape, size or whatever. But real problems may be much rarer than you'd think from reading all those messages. When there is a medical problem that might be the cause, you're probably looking at a penis that's less than about four inches in length when erect. But suppose that some genetic or physiological problem did cause the development of a small penis? Once a man has reached adulthood, there is no medical treatment that will alter the size of his penis, including testosterone treatment, although of course this may be helpful in other ways if he is testosterone deficient- see the page on the andropause for details. Also, the surveys very clearly establish that there is no clear correlation between flaccid and erect size - if you have a small soft one, the question for you is what size is it when it's erect? Anything longer than four inches has to be considered normal, in terms of how often you find it in the population at large, at least. I think one of the key findings in the Kinsey data was that half of all men have an erect penis that's about six inches or less. The Definitive Survey reported that this divider comes at 6.3 inches, which is more or less the same. And by the time you get to 6.7 inches, you've covered sixty percent of men. (I must say I tend to believe the Kinsey data - it matches what my gay friends tell me - large penises are the exception, not the average). Like everything else on the human body, the penis is a very variable organ, as you can see if you follow the links to those web sites with photos illustrating penis size - click here or see the links below and on the anatomy page. It's hard to avoid the conclusion that in the main issues of penis size are mostly psychological. Perhaps the best advice is to try and remember the truth that you are a complete human being, and it's the whole package that draws others to you, not just your sexual endowment and capacity. To demonstrate how true this is, and how important it may be to think of the situation from a different angle, I offer you this extract from one of the small penis forums (links listed in table below): Examples of the kind of questions you can find at the small penis support groups
I've just recently turned twenty and I'm still a virgin. Fortunately, I have met a woman withinthe last month and I'm happy to say that the virgin status seems to be in jeopardy. The only problem is that I'm somewhat concerned about my penis size. The best measurements I can produce are 5" long and 4-3/4 around. I realize that this is below average penis size by almost anyone's standards, but how far off am I? Is a penis of five inches in length in the freak of nature category or is it simply a little below average? How would the average women woman usually react to such a small one?
Hi, I'm a 20 yr old Gay male. My penis size is 2 to 3 inches when soft, and about 4 or maybe 5 when hard. I have to admit I think a BIG part of my depression is based on my penis size, and I just can't seem to get over it. It's like I obsess over it and it's not good for me. I'm so hard on myself that it doesn't even work at times, like it knows that I'm unhappy with it. At times I get so embarassed when another guy is so much bigger than me, which is usually all the time. I just don't know if I will ever get over this. Also I'm a tall guy, I'm 6'3", so everyone automatically thinks I'm hung. And that bothers me... I mean I wish I were, but I guess there's nothing I could do about that. I really have low-self esteem over my penis size. What I'm wondering is how do men who are small in size, get over it. Or feel better about themselves? I can't even believe I'm typing this letter... But if anyone has any good advice please e-mail me. It should do me some good... Hopefully..
I'm different from many of you based on what you're saying. You see, when erect, I'm just a shade under 6 inches length... average. I've never had any problems slipping out during intercourse, or even had a partner make any reference to being small. My problem is when I'm flaccid. I shrink up a lot! Like 1 inch type size. It's not long enough to hang... it just sort of sticks out one inch. I've always been mortified to get naked at the gym. I've wanted to sport an erection some times so people would know I wasn't so tiny, but I never have. Is anybody else in my situation?
